"The use of non-destructive methods in cultural heritage research preserves artifacts while revealing valuable information about their internal structure. Terahertz (THz) radiation effectively investigates hidden layers, aiding in conservation strategies. Multiphoton excited fluorescence (MPEF) enables molecular-level pigment characterization, detecting fluorescence signals from specific materials. This work presents a stratigraphic study of a Russian icon and a Cubist painting using THz time-domain spectroscopy and MPEF. Sparse deconvolution improved THz image processing, mapping pigments through spectral amplitude decay. SHG and three-photon absorption were detected in titanium dioxide, zinc sulfide, and cadmium sulfide using MPEF."
